I cannot claim it is science of Hinduism totally but what I say is that the Alternate medicine developed was based on the thousands years of rich science of "Ayurveda" and developed into Muslim cultural medicine of "Unani" and from then both influenced each other.
What Zaid Hamid is talking is the influence of Hindu science from ancient times on Islam. That is Ayurveda with philosophy of "root cause" and food is half the medicine. Spices in Indian Kitchen(In that case Pakistani too as same sub-continent) and Masala developed over centuries of learned experience passed on to women of house "The untold story of science of food" (Ref: http://halshs.archives-ouvertes.fr/docs/00/58/47/49/PDF/Speziale_Paper_2.pdf)
