Basheer electronics and paint shop, neez desi ghee bhi dastiab hai !

You know what? we have started the Urdu translation of the book and only now it becomes painfully obvious that what great zulm we have done with our beautiful language. Writing good kitabi urdu has become such a challenge and we are at a loss to translate so many English terms into good Urdu. It is truly heartbreaking to see Urdu being systematically being killed at all levels and new terms are not being added but simply English words are written in Urdu script. The state media, private channels, and education system is involved in this slaughter of our history, language and identity.

Just notice this around - in every road sign, shop signs and even TV adds, there is either roman Urdu or pure English written in Urdu script. The simplest words for carpenter, plumber, Mason, electrician, repairing, workshop, mechanic, painter or road are not available in Urdu at all.

It is heart breathtakingly painful :( . A nation without language is without any history, identity and ideology -- just a lost crowed of low lives with no sense of direction and purpose. It must be a capital offense to destroy Urdu language.

For the last couple of days, flu has brought me down a bit, so spending time closer to home and doing Nakhras for no reason and enjoying the attention I am getting. I guess, one should fall sick more often or pretend to be unwell, just to enjoy the pampering :)

Fazal, our chaukidar, came back from leave and that's a great relief, so now he will be handling the civil war in the farmhouse between chickens, ducks, cats and Maxi. Our lawn is in a mess. Winters had already dried it and then the ducks and Maxi dug it out deep, turning into a mud pond. I really hope our Malik Makan do not show up in these days. I do not want him to get in the fight with Maxi or ducks !

Salam Sir....

Masha Allah.. Good to see your lighter part...!! I will Insha Allah personally meet you...!! Just like you I am in a battlefield. But difference is you are elder and high ranked, while i am just an ordinary soldier. But sir telling you the harsh reality, situation is very fragile. Majority of people that i come across in my university i.e. Bahria University Islamabad, I get totally irresponsible response. but still my morale is high because I know the game plan of my beloved Allah. I know whats going on and Insha Allah what will be the results. We will pray for you, you are an source of inspiration for me...

May Allah bless you..

This is a historical process that colonised nations adopt their colonizers' language and customs. On the face of it we are a soverign nation but still culturally and linguistically a subservient society. Europe did this when Islam was the dominent force in the world.

Problem is of different kind in that we copy only superficial and inconsequential stuff and not the real thing. We will follow west in pop music but not institution building, burgers but not work ethics.

Coming back to language if we were to copy one thing from English, it should be the way they use their second person pronoun. "You" is followed by "are" and not "is" as a mark of respect to the addressee. In urdu we are still continuing with "tum ho" for labourers, servants and choukidars but then "Aap hein" for well offs, bosses & Waderas.

I think its time that we should do away with this discrimination based on the addressee's financial and social status and treat all with respect. Children, servants, labourers and women should be accorded the respect that they deserve and addrress them with " Magical Aap" followed by hein, thae and hungae etc..... Singularity of the second person pronoun should be banned by the ministry of education.

Bhai for flu, take a cup of Lemon Grass tea with added lemon twice a day. It's plant can be easily grown at home and just one leaf is enough to make a cup. However I am not sure whether your lawn's civil war will let that plant stay alive for long enough to grow properly :))
